This paper deals with the eff ects of technological parameters used in the V-die bending process, on the obtained product properties and dimensions. By variation of the tool geometry, several cases of steel sheet bending process are observed through the FEM simulations. Also by variation of diff erent mechanical material properties, eff ects on product geometry are observed. Since the automobile manufacturers mostly use the high strength steel sheet metal plates, there is a need for the successful tool construction and optimization in order to produce quality products.

Characterization of Microstructure and Bending Response of Sheet Material: Influence of Thickness

Bending process is one of the most significant fields of application of sheet metal die. In bending process, it is quite vital that the product should have the desired angle. Furthermore, in order to obtain the desired angle in the bent parts, spring-go and spring-back amounts must be known. In this study, 30o, 60o and 90o bending processes were applied to S235JR (1.0038) sheet metal having 3, ...

Stress State and Spring Back in V-bending Operations

Bending is one of the most common metal forming technology and it can be applied not only in sheet metal forming but also in forming of wires, rods, strips, pipes and bars. However, in car production, ship building and home appliance manufacturing sheet metal bending is most widely employed. One of the most significant sheet metal bending operations is V – Die bending. This process consists of ...

Numerical and Experimental Investigations on Springback of U-bending of DP600 Steel Alloy Sheet

The most prominent feature of sheet material forming process is an elastic recovery phenomenon during unloading which leads to springback and side wall curl. Therefore evaluation of springback and side wall curl is mandatory for production of precise products. In this paper, the effects of some parameters such as friction coefficient, sheet thickness, yield strength of sheet and blank-holder fo...

Predictive models for strength enhancements in cold-formed structural sections

Cold-formed structural sections are manufactured at ambient temperature and hence undergo plastic deformations which result in an increase in the yield stress and ultimate stress, but reduced ductility. This paper begins with a comparative study of existing predictive models to harness this strength increase. Modifications to the existing models are then made and an improved model is presented....

Numerical and Experimental Analysis and Optimization of Process Parameters of AA1050 Incremental Sheet Forming

The incremental sheet metal forming (ISMF) process is a new and flexible method that is well suited for small batch production or prototyping. This paper studies the use of the finite element method in the incremental forming process of AA1050 sheets to investigate the influence of tool diameter, vertical step size, and friction coefficient on forming force, spring-back, and thickness distribut...
